After 7+ years of coaching eCommerce clients, when a founder isn’t getting the sales they need, we can usually categorise a lack of results into two areas – a traffic problem (or lack of) or a conversion problem (traffic isn’t buying)
In this episode, I will share how you can figure out what’s going on in your business, how to self-diagnose whether you have a traffic or conversion problem, and where to focus your efforts to scale your traffic and sales.

Let’s start with Conversions.
Do you have a conversion problem? Let’s find out.
Is your overall conversion rate less than 1%?
If you are getting website visitors but making less than 1% conversions – that is, for every 100 visitors you aren’t making a single sale, you might have a ‘conversion problem’.
You can investigate your conversion rate inside your Shopify analytics or Google Analytics. If you use a different platform, you can calculate this manually by dividing the number of conversions divided by the number of visitors x 100.
A conversion problem indicates something isn’t quite working on your website; this could be the website design itself, your product offerings, your positioning, or your pricing.
If you have a conversion problem on your website, pause I’d suggest pausing your paid ads until we address the conversion rate problem.. No amount of ad spend will fix a conversion problem.
So how do we fix a conversion problem and increase our conversion rate?
Ways to address a conversion problem:
If you believe you have a conversion problem rather than a traffic problem, be sure to look at my 12-week coaching program Online Store Succes where we look at this in detail.
Do you have a traffic problem?
The first indication of having a traffic problem, or lack of traffic is that you aren’t getting the volume of sales you need.
Using your conversion rate as a guide, if your website is converting at 1% or more, by increasing your daily traffic you will increase the number of sales you get each day.
If your goal is to get 10 sales a day, and your overall conversion rate is 1%, but your only getting 100 visitors a day, you are going to be only making one sale a day. To hit your sales goal of 10 sales a day, you will need 1,000 visitors a day – ten times your current daily traffic!
So how do you 10x your daily traffic?
This is where Facebook Ads are great as they can help you reach your traffic goals quicker than anything else.
How can you increase your daily website traffic?
Taking an Omnichannel marketing approach is important always, but especially when you want to increase your traffic and fast. Ask yourself, where are your customers spending time already? How can you get in front of them? And once there, how can you share a unified and consistent message and experience with our brand.
