Hello friend,
Today on the podcast, I’m chatting about why your product isn’t the problem.
You see many of my students and clients come to me asking ‘is there something wrong with my product? Why is no one buying from me?’
And 99% of the time my answer is the same – you simply aren’t driving enough targeted traffic to your product pages to make the sales you want.

The other 1% of the time? The product might actually be the problem or rather the messaging around what it is/ and who it’s for is.
Now you may have already heard about ‘conversion rates’ and traffic and if you are early on in your eCommerce journey, you might all sound look gobbledygook
But here’s a truth bomb for you: only 1 – 3% of people will buy from you. And the majority of those people won’t buy on their first visit to your online store, rather than 2nd, 3rd, or 10th visit!
So if your goal is to make 10 sales per day and historically your online store’s conversion rate is 1%, you will need 1000 targetted, high-quality leads or visitors coming to your website EVERY SINGLE DAY to reach your sales goals.
And I can tell you first-hand, that is no easy feat.
To drive 1000 quality visitors to your website each day you will definitely need to be incorporating paid social media ads into your marketing strategy to hit those numbers.
Traffic is the lifeblood of any online store. Without it, those beautiful products of yours will continue to sit on the virtual shelves (or in your garage). So after building your beautiful website, designing and launching your products, targeted website traffic will be your number one priority going forward.

Ok so now we’ve covered what the most likely problem is that is keeping you from meeting your sales goals, let’s talk about some other issues that might be turning people away once they reach your website.
1. Your messaging isn’t clear.
Potential customers can’t figure out exactly what you sell, or do or why your business and products are different to others in the market.
It’s really important to have a clear statement and consistent messaging throughout your site so customers can resonate with your brand and know that you are for them.
Pro tip – have a short, punchy statement ‘above the fold’ on your home page so visitors know exactly who you are within the very first seconds of landing your page.
2. Your website is lacking
Perhaps your website is lacking in elements that help convert your visitors. This could include a lack of quality images, videos, product descriptions, size guides, and FAQs – especially around returns and shipping. If your website is lacking any of these, it could hurt your conversion rate and send new visitors to click off.
3. Your website is hard to use and isn’t mobile-friendly. We are often too close to our own business and website (and more often than not looking at it from inside of Shopify, not the front-facing view your customers see). We miss issues that might be stopping customers from purchasing from you such as pop-up boxes that are impossible to close or blocking other buttons (esp on a mobile device), they can’t find what they need, there being no search button and it’s just clunky to navigate. Your navigation needs to be really straightforward with the least amount of button clicking to complete their purchase as possible.
4. No social proof or trust elements. Do you have reviews on your site? Trust elements such as ‘ 30-day refunds’ or ‘ secure payment’ logos. People are afraid of being scammed online, so be sure to give your visitors as much confidence as possible that you are a real live business that has lots of happy customers already and can be trusted.
5. Product descriptions are lacking. People have only the product images and descriptions to go off to make their purchasing decision. If you only have one sentence, no fabrication, care or sizing information on your product page, people will click off and go to another website that will have that information.
